Where is My Mind?

چکیده

Abstract The research field of AI is concerned with devising theories, methods, and workflows for producing software artifacts which behave as intelligent subjects. Evidently, intelligence, the property an agent, not necessity inherited from methods used to construct it: that a car has been assembled by robots does make it robot. Unfortunately, even this obvious distinction can sometimes be erased in some prominent published work. To wit: statement, “an agent performs sufficiently well on wide range tasks classified intelligent” was recently DeepMind [273] give context paper claiming have developed “the first deep RL outperforms standard human benchmark all 57 Atari games” [14]. This invites inference (57 games) achieved warrants calling advertised ‘intelligent’. However, careful reading reveals authors fact different agents. Granted, using same development method system architecture, but agents were nonetheless trained, rather than claimed single agent. Here prime example distilled confusion: (applicability tasks) one construction (instantiating Agent57 architecture) just ‘magically’ transferred produced method.

Where is my mind?

Do our minds extend beyond our brains? In a series of publications, Mark Rowlands has argued that the correct answer to this question is an affirmative one. According to Rowlands, certain types of operations on bodily and worldly structures should be considered to be proper and literal parts of our cognitive and mental processes. In this article, I present and critically evaluate Rowlands' posi...

Where is my URI?

One of the Semantic Web foundations is the possibility to dereference URIs to let applications negotiate their semantic content. However, this exploitation is often infeasible as the availability of such information depends on the reliability of networks, services, and human factors. Moreover, it has been shown that around 90% of the information published as Linked Open Data is available as dat...

Where is the problem of “ Where is the mind ? ” ?

We propose that the discussions about “where the mind is” depend directly on the metaphysical preconception and definition of “mind”. If we see the mind from one perspective (individualist), it will be only in the brain, and if we see it from another (active externalist), it will be embedded in the body and extended into the world. The “whereabouts” of the mind depends on our <concept|definitio...

Where is my mind? How sponges and placozoans may have lost neural cell types.

Recent phylogenomic evidence suggests that ctenophores may be the sister group to the rest of animals. This phylogenetic arrangement opens the possibility that sponges and placozoans could have lost neural cell types or that the ctenophore nervous system evolved independently. We critically review evidence to date that has been put forth in support of independent evolution of neural cell types ...

"Where is My Mind"- The Evolution of NPCs in Online Worlds

Online worlds are complex places, where we have to know some of the rules of play to engage in the interaction. These worlds are both inhabited by human players and artificial agents called “non player characters” (NPCs). This is an article about how online worlds can contain a new level of interaction using more humanlike NPCs. We propose a new way to describe social interaction in online worl...
